If you've played Pokemon, you know how your Pokemon will evolve into a stronger Pokemon after achieving certain prerequisites (certain level, given a certain item, trade with someone else, etc.). Usually, the evolved form usually just looks similar enough to the base Pokemon.

But when it doesn't, you have to wonder just how it works out.

Here's an example: We all know Remoraid, right?

You call that a Pokemon evolution? Remoraid

Small fishie, like a remora, sometimes found hanging off the fin of a Mantine?

Well, when Remoraid evolves, it doesn't become a bigger fishie, it becomes this:

You call that a Pokemon evolution? Octillery

    It becomes Octillery, an... octopus?

    How does that even work?

Discuss! (and discuss other weird evolutions too)

Evolution is the change of something
over time. That happens through Natural selection, I suppose what happens
is the adaption from the Remoraid's that lived grew, through reproduction.
Afterward, the Remoraid's that evolve into fwesh died off because
they were not fit to survive?

Maybe Remoraids parents are of different species? Cross-breeding for the win?

Can I get an explanation of this:

    Seedot:

You call that a Pokemon evolution? Seedot

    Nuzleaf:

    Shiftry:

Well, if you plant a seed into the ground, it eventually grows into something; be it a plant or a tree or something.

    I got another one.

    Say hello to Dratini!

You call that a Pokemon evolution? Dratini

Of course, when Dratini becomes Dragonair, it gets bigger and fancier, right?

You call that a Pokemon evolution? Dragonair

    Of course!

So it should stand to reason that its final evolution, Dragonite, should be much bigger and more awesome, right?

You call that a Pokemon evolution? Dragonite

Of cour- wait, what the heck?!

The Magikarp one is easy to explain. There was this one episode in Pokemon where there was a bunch of Magikarp that had to swim upstream or up a waterfall (can't remember) to evolve into a Gyarados. I believe it was the Orange Islands. In Japanese folklore/myths, when a carp or koi (same thing really) is able to swim up a stream/waterfall, it becomes a water dragon.
